The STIHL MS 400.1 C-M is built for pros who want a forestry saw that punches hard but still feels light, nimble and precise. It’s a complete redevelopment of the MS 400 C-M, aimed at professional felling, delimbing and timber preparation, with STIHL positioning it as the standout performer in the 60cc class for power-to-weight.
At the heart of the saw is a 62.6 cm³ engine producing 3.9 kW, paired with a low powerhead weight of 5.5 kg (without bar/chain). That balance matters in real work: it’s quicker to manoeuvre through snedding, less tiring over a long day, and easier to control when you’re constantly repositioning. STIHL also highlights 4.3 Nm of torque, which helps the saw feel less pressure-sensitive in bigger timber, so it’s less likely to drop off when you lean into a cut.
Performance and reliability are backed up by STIHL M-Tronic, which electronically manages ignition timing and fuel metering based on conditions like temperature, altitude and fuel quality. In plain terms, it helps the saw start easily and keep running consistently without manual fettling. There’s also manual decompression to reduce effort on start-up, and ElastoStart to smooth out the pull.
